Sneak Peak

While it’s really exciting that the release of QGIS 2.0 is just around the corner, I’m finding it just as exciting that work is already under way on version 2.1! Some great new features have already landed and I can’t wait to see what else is planned. Personally, I’ve got plans for a raft of improvements relating to print composers with the goal of making the print composer behave as much like a full-blown DTP package as possible. In the meantime, here’s a quick teaser of a feature I’ve been working on that will hopefully be landing in master soon:

A sneak peak...

Nyall; love your work on the Print Composer and styling, etc. It’s a huge leap forward for QGIS, and makes it as good as (or better?) than most of the existing options. Thanks for all of your hard work!

That looks very pretty. It makes it easier to distinguish borders. Thanks for the preview.

Great news. It would be nice if your print composer could evelve into a full-blown standalone, open source, easy to use DTP, beacuse, as of today, I couldn’t find one!

    Really nice.

They seem don’t be all in the same direction it is random or data-defined ?

For the start the print composer is terribly missing function to center the map on the object (or center of Qgis map window – vertically). I am centering nearly all maps I produce (some thousands per year) to the object (polygon/layer) of interest and it is not possible at this moment with QGIS 1.8 or 2.0.

Miro – are you referring to this bug http://hub.qgis.org/issues/6988 ?

      • Miro says:

Yes. Sorry for being badass. In my version of QGIS 2.0 in both cases – when I create map frame and when I hit “Set to map canvas extent” it is not vertically centered yet. Anyway you are doing awesome work, keep it up. Thank you very much.

Ok – that’s fixed in master now! Hopefully it helps speed up your workflow 🙂

It works perfect. Thank you very much, really appreciate this. It is tiny detail, but I think it should be later on also done for “add new map”, where the map is still aligned to bottom. And sorry for one more, but it would help me a lot, is there a chance to implement this any soon?: http://hub.qgis.org/issues/6954 (and the same http://hub.qgis.org/issues/6537 to show I am not the only one :-)). Thank you again.

Sorry about the delay – I missed the original notification of this comment. Anyway, I’ve just fixed the issue with new maps aligning to bottom. Let me know if there’s anywhere else this issue pops up! I’ve also added grid tick marks to my (rather lengthy!) to-do list.
